Cardigan Bay has numerous beaches, and a unique marine life. Much of the coast surrounding the bay is fertile farmland, dotted with towns and seaside resorts.

Immortalised by the great poet Dylan Thomas, Cardigan Bay is one to remember, crowned by the hidden jewel of Picton Castle and Gardens and a New Quay Boat Cruise  past award-winning beaches all stunningly framed by the majestic Cambrian Mountains.

Monday

We begin our first full day with a journey up to the seaside town of New Quay, clinging to the sides of the hills rising above the blue waters of Cardigan Bay and is one of the jewels of the Cambrian Coast.

Embark on a 1 hour New Quay Boat Cruise with commentary beginning at New Quay’s pier sailing south to Cwmtudu where passengers see local fauna including bird colonies, the local ruins of an iron age settlement, plus the chance to see some of the many bottle nosed dolphins native to the waters.

After a light lunch in the village and a brief exploration of New Quay (at guests’ own cost), we proceed to scenic Cenarth, a charming little community straddling the river Teifi producing a spectacular series of waterfalls.

The Teifi has always been famous for its salmon, and it is recorded that over one hundred Salmon have been taken in a single morning as they attempted to leap the falls on their way up river to spawn.

Tuesday

On this day we embark on a Welsh castle experience at Picton Castle & Gardens, one of Pembrokeshire’s finest stately homes.

Surrounded by a spectacular 40 acre RHS Partner Garden, Picton Castle originated in the 13th century and has been a treasured family home for over 700 years, transformed into a stately home in the 18th century.

Embark on a 40 minute guided tour through the elegant rooms featuring magnificent fireplaces, fine works of art, including the controversial ‘Picton Renoir’, followed by free time to explore the 40 acre garden and a delightful hidden gem: the Secret Owl Garden

Wednesday

Today we see the best of the Cardigan coast and countryside with suggested visit to the seaside village of Aberystwyth.

Victorian through and through, Aberystwyth's quaint tea shops lining the promenade are delightfully contrasted by an Edwardian 13th century castle highlighting the very Welsh essence of the area. Here you can also take the unusual journey aboard the Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway - the longest in Britain and the only one in Wales (at guest’s own cost).

Opened in 1902, the Vale of Rheidol railway is a masterpiece of engineering, delighting passengers young and old for generations to the beauty spot of Devil's Bridge for over a hundred years!

From the coast at Aberystwyth, see the countryside change as you travel through wide open fields, ancient woodland and rugged mountain scenery as the line twists and turns, clinging to the hillside to reach Devil's Bridge - home of the famous Mynach Falls and Devil's Punchbowl.

Inclusion: 1 hour single journey along 12 miles of heritage railway from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge
